INTERMEDIATE- ADVANCED BURLESQUE
Learn advanced burlesque technique - such as bump and grind combinations, turns, spins,level changes and retro strip tease style floor work, prop use and character development.
This workshop will also be about costuming - fastenings and closures; how to deal with reverse wardrobe malfunctions; stage make-up tips, crowd control and developing a stage persona.
Please bring high heels, undies, bra, gloves, a boa or any other props you may wish to use in class.

ABS-OLUTELY FABULOUS! ABDOMINAL TECHNIQUE & LOVELY LAYERS
Its time to BELLY dance. This special workshop will focus on abdominal technique and core strength and laying the foundation for truly incredible abdominal work. Learn how to flutter and achieve amazing belly rolls, we will drill rolls upwards, downwards and from side to side! You will also learn to LAYER your abdominal movements, like the amazing flundulation, a flutter layered over a belly roll; or combining abdominal work with figure eights and upper torso isolations. Learn the foundations for isolations, and how to put it all together, so that every zip code in your body is doing something different. Pretty soon youll be yelling, Thats Just How I Roll!

These dangerous, and somewhat naughty combinations fuse the very best elements of traditional belly dance with hot Fosse-style jazz and some seriously sassy showgirl attitude. From fan kicks to floor work, from gooey to glamorous, we will concentrate on incendiary fusion moves great for almost any style of dancing. We will go over concepts for beautiful body lines, clean technique, intricate weight transfers plus level and speed changes that cause an audience to look twice, but never look away!

CREATING A VINTAGE ORIENTALE FANTASY PERFORMANCE
MATA HARI, ISADORA DUNCAN, THEDA BARA, SAMIA GAMAl, NAIMA AKEF,
TAHIYA CARICO. Make a vintage Orientale FANTASY come to life!
In this workshop you will learn movements, gesture and poses to convey the feeling of old black and white films and French Postcards, and create a theatrical dance from long ago. Using vintage music from the1920s-1950s you will learn to move slowly and gracefully and use gestures and facial expressions from the time period, as well as hints on make-up, costuming and hair styles for recreating this onstage!

ISOLATIONS, COMBINATIONS, MUSICALITY AND LYRICAL INTERPRETATION WITH PRINCESS FARHANA
What ingredients make a terrific belly dance performance of any genre?
Dynamic technique, controlled isolations, great entrances and exits, musicality and interpretation, precise body lines, seamless transitions and stage presence! After a complete warm-up, we will drill technique for mind-bending layers, isolations, speed changes plus beautiful arms and hands. Then we will concentrate on musical interpretation, integrating emotion and intent. You will learn some short combinations designed to help you
trust your intuition and let your creative juices flow, and to develop the tools to spontaneously create beautiful Oriental or belly dance fusion pieces using your mind and body fully to increase your performance skills.
* Open to all levels , bring a veil and cymbals if you use them
Princess Farhana's Bio -
Internationally acclaimed dance star - Princess Farhana has performed, taught and written about Oriental Dance for over twenty years. She has
appeared in Egypt, China, across Europe and The United Kingdom, as well as in North America, all over the USA, in Mexico and Canada. She has performed at concerts with Arabic superstars Amr Diab, Hakim, Natacha Atlas, and Alabina. She has performed for many celebrities and dignitaries, including the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Saudi Arabian Royal Family, and former US First lady Hilary Clinton.
As a belly dancer, she was voted Favorite Oriental Dancer Of The Year 2006 and 2008 by Zaghareet Magazine. As a burlesque artist, she has been a judge at the USAs legendary international burlesque competition - The Miss Exotic World Pageant. She has been featured on the covers of numerous belly dance publications and on the cover of the London, UK Sunday Reviews feature on American Burlesque.
Trained in the Egyptian style by Zahra Zuhair in Los Angeles and Raqia Hassan in Cairo among many others, The Princess is also known as a
theatrical belly dance fusion performer, re-creating fantasy tableaux and dramatically recreating vintage styles of Oriental Dance from the Edwardian
Era, the 1920s and The Egyptian Golden Age.
For thirteen years, she was a soloist in Americas premiere burlesque troupe, The Velvet Hammer, and was featured in three documentary films on the
troupe. She has also been featured in the burlesque books, The Velvet Hammer, The New Burlesque and Jo Weldons The Burlesque Handbook.
She has appeared in many exotic dance documentaries, including Dirty Martini And The New Burlesque and A and Es This Is Burlesque, and was the
subject of Steve Baldersons documentary film, Underbelly: A Year in The Life Of Dancer Princess Farhana with camera crews following her throughout the world in 2007.
The Princess has also acted and danced in numerous motion pictures; music videos (for Madonna, Ricky Martin and many others )and network television
shows, including The Nanny. From 2006- 2009 she was the principle dancer in comedian Margaret Chos touring burlesque show,The Sensuous Woman
and also appeared dancing and being interviewed in a special segment on dance and body image in Margaret Chos DVD, Assassin.
Under her given name, she has acted in many films as well, including Steve Baldersons recent award-winning films, Firecracker (2005) Stuck! ( 2009) and The Casserole Club (2012).
Author of six books, she was a journalist for years before turning to dance full time. Currently, she is also a regular contributor to belly dance publications Jareeda, Zaghareet, The Chronicles, iShimmy.com, Nafoura.com LARAQS.COM and BHUZ.COM and has written about Oriental Dance and
burlesque in many mainstream publications as well. In Fall 2012, her book on Oriental dance, Belly Dance: Ancient Art,Modern Practice will be published.
In 2011 She collaborated with Cairo, Egypts King Of The Nile costume atelier and designed a line of belly dance costumes, based upon her own
original retro designs.
She has produced a series of instruction / performance dance DVDs including the first-ever instructional burlesque dvd, Boom Boom: Hot Burlesque Moves For Cool Chicks. Her latest DVD Bombshell: Dramatic Make Up For The Stage, Photos and Glamourous Occasions With Princess Farhana and DeVilla
